LIFE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A PERSON WITH EPILEPSY

Do’s
• Do take your medication at the prescribed times
• Do follow a balance diet
• Do exercise regularly but avoid over exertion
• Keep accurate record of seizures and their frequency
• Do have good lighting in the room where you watch TV.
• Do ask your doctor about medication for other conditions before taking them. Some drugs do not mix too well.
• Do tell someone if you are going to swim. Swim with a friend.
• Do tell your child’s teacher what to do if your child has a seizure.
• Talk to your doctor about contraceptive pills and your medication.
• Do wear protective headgear when cycling.
• Do tell your doctor about any ill effects that you experience.
• Do get a good night’s sleep-every night
• Do make sure you have enough medication so that you don’t run short.
• Do keep your appointments with your doctor
 
Don’ts
• Don’t stop your medication unless your Doctor tells you to.
• Don’t have excessive intake of caffeine or alcohol – (Coke-Tea-Coffee)
• Don’t take appetite suppressants, tonics, anti-flu preparations without checking with your doctor.
• Don’t lock the bathroom door.
• Don’t make showers/baths too hot.
• Don’t smoke.
• Don’t give others your medication and don’t take anyone else’s medication.
• Don’t drive unless you have been seizure free for two years.
