· Job one; Released June 16, 2010

Epilepsy Support Association Uganda (ESAU) is an indigenous NGO that brings together people with epilepsy, their families and other people to work towards eliminating the social stigma attached to epilepsy and create an environment in which epilepsy is better understood so that those who live with it can exercise their full potential and enjoy equal rights.

The association mobilizes people with epilepsy to form support groups through which they can meet to share experiences, offer each other mutual support and lobby for better services.
The association was formed in 1997 at Mbarara University Teaching hospital out of epilepsy clinics that were being run by the psychiatric department.

All patients who attended the monthly epilepsy meetings were encouraged to join an epilepsy support group. In the support groups, PWE and their parents received healthy information and education about their condition from health workers.
They would ask questions and share experiences about their condition. Similar support groups were gradually initiated at Rubindi, Ibanda, Itojo, and Rushere in Mbarara district.

With the support of Danida, the association is now operational in 20 districts; Adjumani, Moyo, Arua, Apac, Oyam, Kaberamaido, Katakwi, Amuria, Soroti, Kumi, Jinja, Luweero, Nakaseke, Masaka, Mbarara, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Kabale, Hoima and Mpigi. .... Download>>

ESAU appreciates the working partnership, support, courage and guidance received from various organizations and government departments. Donate to ESAU.
